I’m not usually one for New Years resolutions because I’m usually pretty rubbish at keeping them. But often I have a vague idea of some things I’d like to work on. Last year I wanted to start a blog. I did that, but didn’t make a whole lot of progress.
This year I’ve made a 19 for 2019 list. My favourite podcast, Happier with Gretchen Rubin, discussed this idea last year with an 18 for 2018 list. The list can be whatever you want it to be, but mine is a mix of big and small things I’d like to do this year.
So here’s my 19 for 2019…in no particular order.
1. Do 70,000 steps per week
Well, I haven’t had the best start with this one…because my Fitbit broke half way through week one! I’ll have a new one on Saturday so for now I’m giving myself a break 🙂
2. Establish a quick daily workout routine
I want to do a quick maybe 10 minute workout each morning that helps me wake up and maybe work on my abs…might take me a few months to decide on what I want to incorporate and to start including it into my morning routine. Especially since I’m not at all a morning person!
3. Work through blogging course
I bought an online self-paced blogging course last year (or the year before, who can remember?!) but am only about a third of the way through. I want to complete the course this year and put it into practice!
4. Publish 20 blog posts
This makes one. Just 19 more blog posts to go this year. I’m hoping to smash this goal, but we will see.
5. Declutter/KonMari the house
I’m pretty sure almost everyone has either read The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo, has watched her new Netflix series or has heard about the hype. I’d decided on this goal before her tv series came out…but now I’m sure there’s millions of other people with the same goal this year.
6. Playroom makeover
The kids’ playroom is out.of.control. A major declutter is in order. And then we want to build in some storage on one wall, buy a new table and just generally tidy and beautify the room. This is going to be a major project this year.
7. Fit out wardrobes with shelving
Um yes, we did move into our house more than 3 and a half years ago. And no, we haven’t fit out the wardrobes properly. All of our wardrobes have one shelf at the top and a hanging bar and that is all. I want to organise Ikea shelving and drawers to fit out the wardrobes and make the space more usable. Another pretty big project, but I’m excited!
8. Buy pots and plants for the front deck
I would love some flowers in pots by the front door.
9. Work through ironing pile
Pretty self-explanatory. I have a huge ironing pile at all times. I iron what we need for the day/week but never get beyond that. I want to get through the whole ironing pile and then not let it pile up too much again. 7 to 10 items will be my maximum. Fingers crossed that I get some motivation to do this. Maybe I just need to iron while I watch Tidying Up on Netflix!
10. Make a will
I know, I know, how do I not have a will?! It is actually really irresponsible and I’m going to make it a priority.
11. Go on at least 10 date nights with my husband Clive
I was going to go for 12 date nights, but Clive thought that was unrealistic. But so far in January we’ve gone out for dinner 3 times by ourselves, so I figure that’s 3 date nights already! It’s been so nice to have a bit more time to chat and hang out just the two of us, so I’ll try to beat the 10 date nights.
12. Read at least 12 books
I’m part of a book club and we usually read one book every 6 weeks. As long as I actually finish the book club books, and read the other books I’ve been wanting to read that are already on my bedside table, then I should be able to accomplish this. Twelve isn’t a huge number, I know, but I just want to get back into reading more without having to put too much pressure on myself.
13. Work through Gmail inbox
I currently have about 13,400 unread emails in my Gmail inbox. Yes, you read that right. My little Gmail icon has a huge red notification on it to remind me every day how many unopened emails I have. Whenever I have a spare moment waiting in line for something etc, I’m going to try to delete heaps of emails!
14. Volunteer in my kids’ classrooms at least once per month each
Shaw starts school this year, which means I’m going to have Wednesdays off without my sidekick. But I will be able to help out in both my boys’ classrooms. Really looking forward to this – especially helping with reading in the kindy classroom.
15. Plan overseas holiday for 2020
We are hoping for an overseas holiday to Canada or Hawaii so will get planning.
16. Establish a skincare routine – and stick to it!
I’m terrible at cleaning my face. Most nights I don’t even clean my makeup off. I’m really noticing my skin looking older – it is time to start taking care of it.
17. Learn hand lettering
A random item just for fun. I’d love to learn how to do hand lettering. I think I’ll start with watching some YouTube videos…
18. Find a babysitter
I wanted to accomplish this last year but didn’t manage to. It would be much easier to go out for regular date nights if we could pay someone to look after the kids every now and again. We are really lucky with lots of family who love to look after our kids but we hate to put too much pressure on them. And sometimes we are all invited to a party or wedding and it would be good to have someone we can hire but is someone the kids can get to know.
19. Buy a black and gold statement necklace
I’ve been wanting to add a black and gold statement necklace to my wardrobe for a few years but haven’t found the right one (in my price range). But…just on Friday I was shopping with hubby and bought one. So this item is done!!
Do you have any resolutions for 2019? If you make a 19 for 2019 list, I’d love to see it!
